SAINT TROPEZ-(15-9-2002) Well known city in sports sailing for years regarding all the regattas which are organized over there each year, Saint-Tropez is offering this time to the ONE TON CUP an unbelievable “water playground”.
International sailing events represent a huge part in Saint-Tropez’s life, making the village’s heart beat under the rhythm of the most prestigious regattas, associating like no other place the most technical races with more traditional runs.
The Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez shows once again its capability to manage the organization of high competition regattas, as the One Ton Cup is nothing but the IC45 World Cup. Everything has been elaborated with the efficient help of the Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez, in order to make this race be a great competition on water.
Don’t forget that the Saint-Tropez Bay has a unique navigation and sailing area, but also an incredible scenery all around, where you can always have a look at the village sunny colours.
IC45 will arrive on the 7th of October for boats measuring, and they will start their first race on the morning of the 9th.
Georges ANDREADIS, last year’s winner on ATALANTI X, will defend his title, but he’s threatened by K Challenge 1 and K Challenge 2 teams, who trained all the season with the goal to get a victory at the One Ton Cup, a race which is an entire part of their training towards the 32nd America’s Cup.
Anyway, everybody will probably be charmed by Saint-Tropez; the warm welcome from the Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez and the village inhabitants will be an other proof that the One Ton Cup did the right choice when choosing the place for a week of regattas and intense competition, where a nice and friendly atmosphere is part of the most important values around.
The One Ton Cup is an international competition run under the ISAF rules (International Sailing Federation). The layout is a winward-leeward circuit, one of the most technical.
Created in 1899 by le Cercle de la Voile de Paris, the One Ton Cup is used to reward the winner of the first real time regatta for `one ton` boats and consecrates the IC45 World Champion since 1999.
Amongst the legendary skippers who lifted the famous cup’s 10kg solid silver : William K. Vanderbilt, Ted Turner, Willy Illbruck, and more recently Paul Cayard and Russell Coutts.
